A WIN-win for the Boys & Girls Club

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and WIN (One of Northern Nevada’s premier business networking groups) teamed up to outfit 50 kids with shoes during shopping sprees at Target and Kohl’s stores in the Truckee Meadows.

Nearly $1,600 raised in advance of WIN’s lecture series dinner last Spring was used to send two groups of Club kids to Target during the summer, and one group to Kohl’s this fall for shoe shopping sprees. The stores gave the Club and WIN discounts to help make the event a success.

WIN first approached the Club to coordinate a shoe drive with the buzz surrounding the Lecture Series Dinner, which featured Blake MyCoskie, the founder of TOMS Shoes. TOMS is famous for its business model of outfitting poor children with a pair of shoes for every pair sold. ARTFULLSOULS, the Club’s teen street-dancing troupe, performed a the dinner.

The Club and WIN also put on a “Style your Soles” event at one of our teen centers, where teens custom-designed pairs of TOMS shoes. Those shoes were donated by Lisa Arnbrister and the crew at Concepts By Fine ‘N Funky, the Reno clothier she owns.

In the end, the generosity of WIN’s members and everyone involved in the project showed the level of commitment the community shows for our kids.
