The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows in collaboration with Washoe County Parks and Recreation is bringing year-round before- and after-school programming to Lemmon Valley in addition to the summer camp program it has run for several years at the Joe Mitchell Community Center next door to Lemmon Valley Elementary School.
The addition will give parents and kids a conveniently located alternative to other Club sites. The Boys & Girls Club expects approximately 150 kids to take advantage of the programming. In preparation, the Club has been doing renovations to the Joe Mitchell Community Center that will create quiet homework and computer rooms, as well as games, assembly and dining areas.
For five years, the Club has operated at the site with a summer-only schedule of programming. The Club will continue the summer program this year, with open hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. from June 13- Aug. 26, for $40 a week, meals included. During the school year, youth members ages 6-12 are welcome at the Club before and after school for just the cost of the $20 annual membership.
In preparation for our summer opening, young volunteers from the Rotary Exchange program, who were in northern Nevada for a conference, helped us with some renovations. Check out the video:
