Club kids participate in river safety training

Two dozen Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows members from the Club’s Neil Road site have some new knowledge that could save their lives thanks to the Truckee River Foundation and its corps of volunteers.

Our members – ranging in age from about 8-12 – participated in TRF’s free Truckee River Safety Fair on Saturday on the Truckee River at Wingfield Park.

During the event, the kids donned free life jackets and helmets and were instructed on their use by TRF volunteers. Then, in groups of eight, the kids were put through a series of exercises in the water, and were instructed on safe swimming techniques for dangerous river situations. They learned how to stay face up, feet downriver. They also learned how to use the current to find safety at the river bank.

The kids capped a day full of smiles with lunch and ice cream on the grass. Thank you Truckee River Foundation!

The Truckee River Foundation is a Nevada non-profit corporation, governed by a board of directors chosen for their commitment to the community and contribution of specific expertise and skills.
