Wurm, Walker recognized at MLK event

Two Boys & Girls Club staff members were recently recognized at the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society‘s 24th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner.

Mike Wurm, the Club’s chief professional officer, was awarded the organization’s Community Service Award. The NNBCAS recognized Mike’s involvement in community groups such as the Sparks Chamber of Commerce, as well as his efforts in growing the Club from a one-site, 800-member organization to its current status – 18 sites and more than 10,000 members annually. Also recognized during the dinner was Charles Walker. Charles, or as he is affectionately called, “Junior,” was awarded the Youth Leadership Award. Charles has worked with the Club in some capacity since 1999, but has made his biggest mark since taking over The Club at Hug High School. Charles’s influence has made Hug one of the Club’s most successful teen sites, and countless youth count him as a mentor and a friend.

Congratulations Mike and Charles!
