Tracy Herrera selected Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year

Tracy Herrera has been selected as Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows 2011 Youth of the Year

Tracy, 17, a member since 13, will represent the Club at the Nevada state Youth of the Year competition March 12-13 in Las Vegas. The winner of that competition moves on to the regional and (hopefully) the national competition.

The Youth of the Year is the highest distinction for a Boys & Girls Club member, recognizing service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. Tracy excels in all of these areas despite being born with a disability and having to overcome cultural, social and language barriers.

At the Club, Tracy is a constant companion and mentor to our younger members, working each day in the Club’s art program and in other programs. Congratulations also go out to the Club’s other youth of the year finalist Alex Gasetoto, whose strength of character and resiliency is a great example in our community.

Please join us in congratulating Tracy on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/PositivePlace.
