These are the stories of Club members who have overcome incredible obstacles to find success, of parents and caregivers who are thankful that there’s a safe place where kids can go after school, of community members who were able to find assistance at the Club when they couldn’t find a hand anywhere else, and of Club employees and volunteers who always do whatever it takes to help.
The Boys & Girls Club of America Youth of the Year scholarship program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring teens and their incredible journeys. Stories of outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle have made Youth of the Year America’s premier leadership and recognition program for teens. These amazing young people represent the voice and spirit of hope for America. Inspiring all kids to lead. To succeed. To inspire. Youth of the Year is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy.
Jami is a senior at Wooster High School and Junior Staff at our Neil Road Clubhouse. She has been a member since 2012 and has been highly active in participating in Power Hour, College Readiness programs, Money Matters, and the LIT & Junior Staff program. Jami’s dream job is to become a forensic pathologist. When Jami is not at school or the Club, she learns how to play the guitar. Her favorite quote is, “You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated.”
Christian is a senior at Sparks High School and attends our Donald W. Reynolds Clubhouse. He has been a member since 2011, and during his time, he has been highly active in Torch Club, Dance Club, and the LIT & Junior Staff program. Christian is also a varsity football player at Sparks High School. Christian’s dream job is to become a nurse, therapist, police officer, or lawyer. When Christian is not at school or football, he is a Junior Staff at our DWR Clubhouse. His favorite quote is, “Stop wishing, start doing.”
