Our Stories

Our Clubs are filled with amazing stories.

These are our stories of Club members who have overcome incredible obstacles to find success, of parents and caregivers who are thankful that there’s a safe place where kids can go after school, of community members who were able to find assistance at the Club when they couldn’t find a hand anywhere else, and of Club employees and volunteers who always do whatever it takes to help.

The Boys & Girls Club of America Youth of the Year

The Boys & Girls Club of America Youth of the Year scholarship program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring teens and their incredible journeys. Stories of outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle have made Youth of the Year America’s premier leadership and recognition program for teens. These amazing young people represent the voice and spirit of hope for America. Inspiring all kids to lead. To succeed. To inspire. Youth of the Year is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global, and integrated world economy.

2025 BGCTM YOY Sileisa M

Sileisa is a senior at Damonte Ranch High School and attends our William N. Pennington Clubhouse. Sileisa has been a member since 2013 and is currently a Staff at our Pennington Clubhouse. During her time at the Club she has been extremely active in Ballers, Money Matters, Keystone Club, Leaders in Training and Junior staff program, snow riders ski program, Youth leaders, and Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Her most memorable club experience is singing with her club theatre group at the YOY BGC Banquet. When she’s not at the Club, she enjoys participating in theatre and choir both in and outside of school. Her favorite quote is: “Yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift that is why it is called the present.”

2025 BGCTM YOY Sammy  D

Sammy is currently a senior at Coral Academy of Science. He holds a weighted 4.92 GPA and is a CLP at our Rollan Melton Elementary School Site. During his time at the Club, Sammy has participated in the Club Leadership Programs, kitchen training for food truck Fridays, and tours at UNR. Sammy‘s favorite Club experience was this past summer, when he was a judge at our talent show. Sammy’s dream job is to be a dentist and a pastor, advocating for those in need of oral care and spreading his faith around the world. When Sammy is not at school or at the Club, Sammy is active playing both soccer and baseball at a varsity level. He also gives back to his church by leading the 4th-grade youth group. His favorite quote is “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.”
