Family PLUS

Family PLUS Program

Our Family PLUS program is available to all Club families. The Family PLUS department is available to help families meet individual needs outside of the Club.  These services may include resources and referrals to partner agencies in the community; including but not limited to: housing, utility assistance, food security, and healthcare.

Successful families make a successful community.

Included in the Family PLUS program is access to services surrounding parent leadership, holiday assistance, and helping families acquire material donations they may need such as clothing, food, or household items.  This program also offers various parent and family engagement opportunities including Family Nights and our Strengthening Families Program. Strengthening Families is a 10-week class aimed at helping create happier and stronger families. For more information, please reach out to your child’s site coordinator.

Toys for Tots

We’re thrilled to share that we’re partnering with the Toys for Tots program to bring holiday joy to families! Through this partnership, each child in your family (ages 0-15) can receive one toy and one stocking stuffer. Participation is open to all families, not just Boys & Girls Club members. Click below to apply. This resource is intended for families who are not currently receiving other Christmas assistance. For any questions, please contact Alexandra Gutierrez at 775-360-2467.

Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families Program is a 10-week, evidence-based program in which children, ages 6-17, and their parents attend classes focusing on topics that help create happier, more bonded families. These parenting classes are unique because the children are able to attend and learn appropriate ways to respond to the skills being introduced to parents.

Each two-hour class allows for parents and their children to eat a meal together, separate for class, and engage in family activities and discussions around each week’s module. Weekly modules include topics such as: Communicating with Love and Understanding; Rules, Responsibilities, and Rewards; Setting Consequences and Limits; and Choosing Good Friends and Monitoring Activities.

Aside from parent education, there are many additional benefits included in participating including peer support, case management, community referrals, and access to resources. The Strengthening Families Program is entirely free, including a meal and childcare for children under six. Virtual opportunities are also available for those outside of the Reno area.

If you would like more information about these programs, please contact Naomi Valenzuela-Mora  Family Plus Director at  (775) 360-2401 or nvalenzuela@bgctm.org
